At LAFCU our Collectors will notify or locate members with delinquent accounts and attempts to
secure payment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. The Credit Union reserves the right to modify, amend, or eliminate the described functions, tasks, and responsibilities of this position at any time when the circumstances warrant such a variation.


  • Obtain and review credit reports and skip trace reports; correct LAFCU reporting errors on credit reports.
  • Communicate with members to encourage payment of delinquent accounts, determine reasons for delinquency, and negotiate repayment solutions.
  • Record detailed information on member financial status and collection efforts.
  • Recommend repossession, legal action, or budget counseling when appropriate.
  • Maintain records of repossessions, assist with auctions, and prepare required documents for collateral.
  • Process payments, including charged-off accounts, grant credit extensions, and resolve misapplied transactions.
  • Work with attorneys, vendors, and law enforcement on legal proceedings and collection efforts, ensuring compliance with policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum one year Collection experience within the last 5 years, or 5 years of experience in Consumer Lending practices and procedures and real estate lending, including, but not limited to skip tracing, foreclosures, and demonstrates general knowledge of collection procedures, bankruptcy law, and applicable regulations, including, but not limited to Reg Z, ECOA, Service Members' Civil Relief Act, BSA, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act., eligible for NMLS certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to members and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of using PC, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel; demonstrated ability to relate to members/customers and co-workers in a professional manner, demonstrated commitment to member service; ability to accept and perform duties efficiently and accurately; ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions and recommendations based upon level of responsibility; a positive attitude and dependability are required.
