POSITION PURPOSE
The Database Administrator supports a large statewide research repository, which is replicated in near real-time. This repository is crucial for research at the Regenstrief Institute and is currently 50TB and growing. The ideal candidate will provide primary support for Oracle databases and secondary support for Postgres databases.

This position is listed as 100% remote.

JOB KNOWLEDGE

PEFORMANCE AUTONOMY
The performance autonomy competency focuses on the level of independence one has when performing the work. Time-management skills are also a factor in this competency.
Related responsibilities include:


  • Installs and maintains the Oracle RDBMS.

  • Manages and maintains challenging database storage structures and backups.

  • Manages database user accounts.

  • Monitors performance and makes appropriate recommendations and changes.

  • Regularly reviews and updates database security protocols.

  • Assists application teams and data analysts with query tuning and debugging application database related issues.

  • Refactors database maintenance processes for improved performance, stability, and scalability.

  • Utilizes Shareplex to replicate data from the database in near real-time.

  • Performs all aspects of data and database administration, including the following:


    • Software evaluation and installation

    • Logical and physical database design and implementation

    • Support of application testing

    • Security administration

    • Backup and recovery planning

    • Capacity planning

    • Database maintenance and performance enhancement

    • Research and evaluation of new tools and techniques.

    • Development of database policies and procedures

  • Makes decisions regarding database and systems processes.

  • Seeks approval before making higher-level decisions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Requires a bachelor's degree in information systems or a related field. Extensive experience may be considered in place of degree.

  • Requires at least five (5) years of experience with Oracle database applications.

  • Requires the ability to successfully complete Human Subjects Certification upon hire.

  • PostgreSQL and/or Oracle certifications preferred.

  • Requires the ability to interact and verbally communicate with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Requires effective verbal and written communication skills and advanced listening skills.

  • Requires ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Requires the ability to think logically to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make sound decisions.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.



TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS


  • Requires advanced computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and
    e-mail systems.

  • Requires the ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones.
