Department: International Student and Scholar Services
Salary/Grade: EXS/9

The target hiring range for this position will be between $78,482 - $87,500 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

*Must be U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, meet Department of Homeland Security Designated School Official requirements.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director, a key member of the OISS leadership team, will manage the advising and programming services for all international students on the Evanston, Chicago and Miami campuses; he/she will supervise advising staff; working with the software system to ensure data integrity; analyze and interpret U.S. immigration regulatory policies and assist in the development of institutional compliance policies.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Management and supervision of 7 direct reports. This includes professional development, performance excellence. Strategic planning, oversight of day-to-day advising functions, communication, data analysis, data management and regulatory compliance.
  • Advises F and J students; their dependents; H-1B and J-1 scholars on immigration and related matters and processing and filing of appropriate documents and petitions with USCIS, Department of State, Department of Labor
  • Supervision of program development, implementation and assessment
  • Assess and manages appropriate training for key university stake-holders and other constituent groups
  • Manages the student regulatory compliance and oversee the planning and implementation of regulations
  • Manages tax software implementation

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of progressive experience in international students and scholars advising; supervisory experience of professional advising staff; a track record of policy development and presentations on regulatory and data management; thorough knowledge of F and J immigration regulations. Ability to meet the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security requirements to be a DSO/ARO

  • Cross-cultural competence
