PURPOSE:

The Plant Operator is directly responsible for monitoring and optimizing plant processing systems. The position will join an empowered work-team focused on safety, quality and efficiency. This position is responsible for ensuring regulatory and corporate compliance and is accountable for the management of running the unit as well as maintaining the running level of the unit.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Monitors equipment parameters, starts/stops equipment, data collection, troubleshooting, sample gathering, housekeeping duties, assists on minor maintenance
  • Monitor and control plant operations in a safe manner
  • Effectively communicate with operations personnel and management to ensure work is completed efficiently and properly
  • Participates on a diverse team to achieve common goals and complete tasks including identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Completes tasks in a safe, timely, and accurate manner
  • Adheres to all safety rules and regulations
  • Operates equipment within the plant such as pumps, valves, distillation columns, and heat exchangers
  • Communicates effectively with other operators to achieve common goals and with management to convey process and project status
  • Fosters team building to boost the success of the operations department
  • Utilizes troubleshooting skills in determining potential reasons for equipment or other malfunctions and develop possible solutions
  • Employs problem solving skills in determining the correct solution to challenges concerning plant processes
  • Analyzes situations and tests data in order to come to a logical solution on existing or potential process problems
  • Employs investigative skills to determine reasons for complications or equipment failures
  • Participates in housekeeping and safety audits
  • Other duties as assigned



REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:



  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Can pass drug screens, physical and background check



PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:



  • Associate's degree in Process/Petroleum Technology
  • Knowledge and skill in computer and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Prior experience as an operator in a refinery or specialty chemicals plant



COMPETENCIES:



  • Ability to maintain equipment by using preventative measures in checking equipment to avoid problems or breakdowns which could impact the process
  • Able and willing to work 12-hour rotating shift that will include weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime
  • Able and willing to work independently without direct supervision
  • Able and willing to wear personal protective equipment as needed, but not limited to, eye/face protection, flame retardant clothing, respirator, gloves, hearing protection, and fall protection, etc.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to be accountable for achieving long-term and day-to-day goals and tasks in an active environment
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong organization, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees
