Harrisburg Area Community College

On Feb. 14, 1964, HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, became the first community college in Pennsylvania. Proudly YOURS, we are the largest and oldest community college in Pennsylvania. Mission & Strategic Plan

Over the next three years, our strategic plan will guide the College in an ongoing transformation to better serve students, employees and our communities. The 2019-22 strategic plan - One College, Uniting for Success - is informed by data, private- and public-sector best practices, recommendations from outside consultants and feedback from individuals around the College.

In addition to a new strategic plan, HACC has adopted a new purpose statement to better represent our role in the community as a provider of quality educational experiences:

HACC is at a critical moment in its history. Our students face greater challenges and are more diverse than ever before, funding for higher education continues to decline and enrollment trends continue to trend downward across the country. Our strategic plan is student-centric and designed to help us innovate to address these significant challenges.

Why HACC?

Proudly YOURS, HACC was established in 1964 as Pennsylvania's first community college and has grown to become a multi-campus institution that plays a vital role in improving the quality of life in Central Pennsylvania. HACC is lead by a diverse team of professionals and embraces, supports, and vigorously follows a policy of inclusiveness that reflects and appreciates the diversity of the communities it serves and the world in which we live.

With a full- and part-time student enrollment of nearly 20,000 and over 55,000 served in noncredit courses, we are always seeking leaders in various fields to join HACC's mission to provide excellence in all aspects of the community and in quality education throughout the Central PA region. HACC employs nearly 2,000 individuals and serves nearly 19,000 degree-seeking students and more than 24,000 workforce development students.
