Overview

The Senior Manager of Sample Management provides expertise to the Research and Early Development (ReDEV) organization. Reporting to the Director of Lab Operations, the Senior Sample Operations Manager will work closely with ReDEV scientists, partners, global trade, compliance, shipping team, supply chain and CROs on coordinating operational activities for the handling, shipping, tracking, storing and transferring of biological materials and test/control articles in ReDEV within the laboratory information management system (LIMS).

This position is onsite and will be in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and lead the ReDEV Sample Management team.
* Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the biorepository, including sample collection, processing, storage, tracking, and distribution using LIMS.
* Manage and monitor sample transfers between departments, shipping, CROs, and offsite storage.
* Manage offsite sample inventory and coordinate transfers to and from onsite laboratories.
* Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all repository related aspects that include the usage of LIMS, inventory and shipping of samples.
* Work with ReDEV teams to organize and catalog existing freezers using the Alnylam LIMS (Sapio, LabWare, and Watson).
* Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions to ensure compliance with the sample retention, quality, integrity, and traceability.
* Implement a sample retention policy to support the disposition of samples.
* Oversee the management of the LIMS ensuring accurate tracking of biological materials, test articles, other samples and metadata.
* Develop processes, procedures, and report requirements and work with the ReDEV Software Engineering and IT teams to support the sample management team.
* Develop metrics and provide regular reporting to improve sample management processes and workflows.
* Stay current with advancements and best practices in biorepository management and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
* Maintain records of all biosafety and biosecurity measures, including hazardous material handling and disposal where applicable.
* Supervise and provide training to sample management staff, ensuring adherence to SOPs, Work Instructions, and safety protocols.
* Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for staff to keep up with evolving technologies and new systems.
* Other duties related to the job function may be requested.

Qualifications

* University Science Degree with a minimum of 8 years of sample management/operations experience in academic or industry setting.
* Strong experience using a biorepository system/ LIMS.
* Previous experience managing and coordinating domestic and international shipments.
* Previous experience in handling biological specimens and managing large inventories in a lab setting.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment with a sense of urgency and creativity and focus on deliverables.
* Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., FDA, GLP, GMP, HIPAA) and industry best practices for tracking, handling and storing samples.
* Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records.
* Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal teams.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
