Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC is seeing a Director, Risk Engineering (Global Security), who combines deep software engineering expertise with enterprise risk management knowledge. This senior leadership role bridges technology execution and risk governance, driving innovation across our engineering teams while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. You will lead the transformation of control testing processes into continuous, automated monitoring while building and mentoring a specialized engineering team. The Director, Risk Engineering (Global Security will be at the forefront of Global IT Risk functions within Global Cyber Security, providing the organization assurances that key controls and software engineering standards are met across RBC.

What will you do?

  • Lead and mentor a specialized control testing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Design and implement a digitized platform for Risk Identification and Control Center, leveraging automation and AI to enhance control testing capabilities
  • Own technical design and implementation of the enterprise control testing automation platform, driving the transition from manual processes to continuous monitoring
  • Collaborate with other Lead Engineers in designing and building a scalable Enterprise Risk Platform that supports multiple risk domains
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the Risk Platform, workflows, metrics, reporting, and issue management solutions
  • Drive automation of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Control Indicators (KCIs) across the organization
  • Contribute hands-on to technical architecture, code review, and critical engineering decisions
  • Partner with Risk, Compliance, and legal stakeholders to deploy control testing solutions across the enterprise
  • Challenge engineering teams across RBC on their engineering standards, security controls, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure RBC and its operations remain secure
  • Contribute to the overall goal and vision of risk reduction and process efficiency using modern tools such as automation and AI

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Progressive experience in software and risk engineering or related discipline within financial services
  • Strong understanding of modern DevOps tools and processes
  • Hands-on proficiency in Python, Java, React, or equivalent programming languages
  • Strong background in enterprise data architecture, SQL or NoSQL data stores, and modern databases
  • Exposure and deep understanding of code vulnerability scanners (SAST, SCA, DAST tools such as SonarQube, Checkmarx, Snyk, OWASP, and ESLint)
  • Prior knowledge and understanding of different risk modules including but not limited to RCSA, Control Testing, Risk Assessments, Cyber Security, and Risk Remediation

Nice-to-have

  • Prior experience working in GRC Archer API
  • ISACA Certifications, CISM, CISA or similar

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000 - $275,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements that comprise our total compensation package, which includes the following: commission sharing eligibility for select roles, a discretionary bonus, a paid time-off plan, our 401(k) program with company-matching contributions, and our health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance.
