Overview

Alnylam is the world's leading RNA interference (RNAi) company, dedicated to transforming the lives of patients through innovative medicines. As Medical Affairs becomes increasingly data-driven, insight-led, and outcomes-focused, Alnylam is advancing a platform- and data-first technology operating model to enable scale, simplification, and enterprise alignment.

The Director, Global Medical Affairs Technology is accountable for the strategy, roadmap, lifecycle, and governance of the platforms, data products, and integrations that enable Global Medical Affairs. This role serves as the primary technology leader and business partner for Medical Affairs across field medical, medical insights, omnichannel scientific engagement, medical information, scientific communications, KOL/HCP engagement, and real-world evidence enablement.

This is an individual contributor role that will partner closely with Medical Affairs, Data & AI, Security, Privacy/Compliance, external partners, and contractors as needed to simplify the technology landscape, strengthen data foundations, and deliver scalable, governed, reusable capabilities that improve scientific exchange, insight generation, and medical impact measurement worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Business Partnership

* Own the Medical Affairs technology strategy and portfolio by serving as the primary technology leader and trusted business partner to Global Medical Affairs, translating business priorities across field medical, medical insights, omnichannel engagement, medical information, scientific communications, KOL/HCP engagement, and RWE into a clear, enterprise-aligned technology roadmap.

Product, Platform & Data Leadership

* Own product and platform lifecycle management for Medical Affairs technology capabilities, including roadmap, standards, architecture principles, lifecycle planning, and governance, ensuring platforms are scalable, compliant, reusable, and aligned with enterprise technology and data strategy.

* Define and govern the Medical Affairs data strategy in partnership with Data & AI, including data ingestion, integration, reusable data assets, governed access, analytics enablement, and measurement frameworks that support medical insights generation, longitudinal analysis, RWE, and decision support.

Omnichannel, Field Medical & Scientific Engagement Enablement

* Enable connected, compliant scientific engagement by building the technology and data foundation that links content, interactions, and insights across MSL/MOSL engagement, scientific communications, medical information, medical web and digital channels, and broader omnichannel medical capabilities.

* Advance simplification and reuse across the Medical Affairs ecosystem by reducing fragmentation, manual work, siloed reporting, and bespoke solutions, while promoting shared platforms, standardized data products, and enterprise-aligned design patterns.

Delivery, Adoption & Value Realization

* Partner on intake, prioritization, and cross-functional delivery for Medical Affairs technology investments, working with Medical Operations & Insights and other Medical Affairs stakeholders to translate business needs into platform capabilities, roadmap decisions, and measurable releases that improve user experience, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.

* Jointly define adoption, performance, and value realization measures with Medical Operations & Insights, Data & AI, and business stakeholders by establishing KPIs, monitoring usage and platform health, and using evidence to refine priorities, communicate impact, and ensure Medical Affairs technology investments deliver measurable value.

Operations, Governance & Vendor Leadership

* Govern operations, compliance, and vendor performance to ensure Medical Affairs platforms and data products are reliable, secure, auditable, and well-supported, with strong accountability for privacy, security, documentation, quality, service delivery, and partner performance.

Qualifications

Required

* Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, Business, or a related technical or business discipline.

* 10+ years of experience in life sciences technology, Medical Affairs technology, commercial/medical platform leadership, digital product management, or related roles in regulated environments.

* Demonstrated experience owning enterprise product or platform roadmaps and lifecycle management for shared capabilities rather than one-off projects or localized solutions.

* Strong understanding of Medical Affairs processes and capabilities, including field medical, medical insights, medical information, scientific communications, omnichannel engagement, KOL/HCP engagement, and/or real-world evidence.

* Experience with data platforms, integrations, analytics enablement, and data governance, with the ability to partner effectively with Data & AI and enterprise technology teams.

* Proven ability to define priorities, standards, KPIs, and governance mechanisms that drive measurable business outcomes, simplification, and reuse.

* Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills, with the ability to influence across Medical Affairs, Technology, Data & AI, Legal/Compliance, Privacy, Quality, and external partners in a matrixed global organization.

* Experience engaging vendors, managed service providers, and contractors as needed to coordinate delivery across internal and external teams, without direct people management accountability.

* Experience operating in biotech, pharma, healthcare, or another regulated industry with strong understanding of compliance, privacy, security, documentation, and auditability requirements.

Preferred

* Advanced degree in life sciences, business, informatics, data, technology, or a related field.

* Direct experience supporting Global Medical Affairs, Field Medical, Scientific Communications, Medical Information, or other scientific or evidence-based functions.

* Experience with platforms and capabilities such as CRM, medical engagement tools, medical information/communications systems, digital publishing, KOL planning, content management, or medical web platforms.

* Experience enabling AI-ready data products, knowledge management, analytics, or decision-support capabilities for Medical Affairs.

* Experience supporting global organizations across regions, therapeutic areas, and country-specific regulatory or privacy requirements.
