Alternative Investment Strategist

What is the opportunity?

As an Alternatives Investment Strategist for RBC US Wealth Management you will work alongside the Multi-Asset Portfolio Strategist, Wealth Strategists, Alternatives Consultants and other internal teams on developing, coordinating, and executing our alternatives ambitions. The role is part of the Portfolio Advisory Group (PAG). PAG's mandate is to enable RBC-WM financial advisors to consistently deliver investment advice and solutions to their clients with the highest level of competence and confidence and your role will empower financial advisors with thoughts on the asset class and portfolio positioning.

What will you do?

• Responsible for internal and external publications about the alternatives market
• Organize and participate in webcasts focusing on alternatives topics and market outlook
• Collaborate with Marketing to support alternatives campaigns and enhance website content
• Collaborate with the U.S. Investment Committee and Global Portfolio Advisory Committee members to formulate market views across various alternative asset classes
• Assist UHNW advisors or other internal partners in review of client portfolios and allocations with specific focus on alternatives
• Create and implement a proactive service model for managing relationships
• Stay current on emerging trends in the alternatives market to make informed investment recommendations
• Create an actionable investment framework within the alternatives market to help advisors and clients understand risks and opportunities
• Communicate market (our cross-asset investment views) and economic perspectives to clients, via client presentations, publications or product-oriented marketing programs
• Relate key market developments to the positioning within managed portfolios to clients, specifically within alternative asset classes
• Research model portfolio development that includes alternative investments

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Finance or Economics
• 10+ years' financial industry experience
• 5+ years' experience as an investment strategist or similar role
• Series 7 & 66 licensed or ability to obtain in 180 days
• Previous experience working with financial advisors
• Knowledge of complex investment structures and esoteric investments
• Exhibits wealth management and investment products expertise
• Able to listen to client's needs and make decisions/take actions that help clients achieve their long-term goals
• Effective problem identification, analytical and resolution skills
• Ability to distill complex or detailed financial information into key points and a recommendation
• Knowledge of investment management disciplines such as asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk return analytics, performance measurement and reporting
• Strong ability to interact with all levels of staff. Must be able to maintain relationships that will relate to the overall success of the established firm goals

Nice-to-have

• CFA, CAIA, or CFP designation or working to obtain
• 2+ years HNW client experience
• Portfolio management experience
• Experience in investment performance and risk analysis, particularly as it relates to multi-asset portfolio management
• Experience recommending and researching private investment opportunities and how they fit into a well-diversified high-net worth portfolio

The expected salary range for this particular position is $120,000-$200,000, (New York, San Francisco), $99,000-$176,000, (Chicago, Los Angeles), $90,000-$160,000, (Denver, Minneapolis) depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
